I WANT A DOG (best dog food brands)

So, like some teens/kids my age, I WANT A DOG. I've wanted a dog ever since I was aware of what a dog was. This is how bad I want one. But I'm not like your average girl, and I didn't just beg my parents day after day. So today, I'm going to show you what I did to attempt to get a dog, and all about dogs. Unlike some children I did countless HOURS of research to decide which breed of dog I should adopt. First it was a maltese I wanted, then a King Cavalier Spaniel. I also researched the ultimate best dog food brand, and went through the ingredient lists of over 20+ brands. THIS IS HOW DEDICATED  I WAS. See, this is what I do, when I want something, I will do everything I can to try and get it. At this point, I feel like a serious dog expert. I know (what I believe to be) the ultimate top brands, to the worse brands imaginable. So I'm going to tell you a bit about dog foods you should look out for and which are the best brands. This is my personal opinion based off of many hours of research, that I believe stand true.

When deciding the best dog brand, I believe there are 3 things most people look for. They look for the quality of the dog food (if the ingredients are good enough for their dogs needs), the reputation of that certain dog food brand (if there are good reviews and what their dogs doctor says), and the price of it all (how much dough it is going to cost.) In my mind, these are the 3 most important things to be aware of, however, I'm here to inform you on some places you might be going wrong.

Let's talk quality. Most owners want to make sure their pets get the very best. However, no matter how many reviews you read, or how many people you talk to, the only way you will know the absolute truth is by actually checking out the ingredients list by yourself. The first ingredient you should be aware of is any ingredients that has the word by-product. By-products are typically a secondary result (something that was not originally wanted, like a side effect) and is often produced trying to produce something else. In translation, by-products in your dogs food could be like discarded pieces that no one else wants, and are unhealthy and not fit for human consumption. This can include (but are not limited to) blood, tissue, bones, and other entrails. I, and many others, believe that it's wrong to feed your pet food that is WAYYY below human standard, so make sure you look out for the word by-products in your ingredients list.

The next thing you should know about purchasing a dog food brand is that some veterinarians aren't trustworthy. When you ask your veterinarian which brand they suggest they may suggest a dog food brand they feel obliged to tell you. Sometimes, companies will convince veterinarians to recommend their brand to their clients and therefore you will get a faulty brand recommended to you. Even though these doctors are supposed to help you get the best food for your dog, they don't always do their jobs.

And finally… the price of dog food. Now this is a tricky one, because no matter how much research you do about the best brands to feed your dog, you have to check if you have enough in your wallet. Now, certain dog foods are much more expensive, stuff like raw dog food diets or organic kibble. But there are also cheaper forms of dog food like canned dog food, or dry kibble. Its important to realize that more expensive dog food is not always better. Lets take raw meat diets for example. The good thing about these diets are that they are more natural and less processed than a lot of other dog food. They are also really healthy for dogs, because most dogs don't get stomach problems with a raw dog food diet. However, the downside of raw diets, are that they are expensive, and its hard to make dogs switch off of a raw food diet. When a dog has become accustomed to a certain type of food, its harder to switch them off, especially if its a raw dog food diet. I will do more dog posts soon but for now I hope this was helpful. - Ash
