BOOKS I've been loving (and you should love them too)

I totally forgot about this blog. I KNOW IM A TERRIBLE PERSON.  I'm going to be completely honest, and tell y'all that I forgot I had a blog until I started reading other blogs and then I thought, "HEY! Don't I have one of these?" So here I am, back on my blog, hopefully going to blog something interesting today. But we'll see.

So I've been trying to read 100 books this year, which is a pretty tough goal. By completing this goal, I would have to read, on average, 1 book every 3.65 days. THATS PRETTY OVERWHELMING. But, I'm still going to try and do it. So here is a list of 4 books I loved reading, that you should try reading somedays. There are all in a variety of genres, because I've been dabbling (I LOVE THIS WORD) in different genres recently.

1. Escape from camp 14
Now this book BLEW MY MIND. For real. The book centres around a young man in North Korea, who is living in camp 14 (rumoured to be one of the toughest prison camps.) The people in these camps are political prisoners of North Korea, and he is the only known man to ever escape it. His journey is long and hard, but as an outsider, it gives you a look at North Korea in an interesting perspective. What makes this even more interesting, is that this protagonist isn't the typical hero. He doesn't want to save other people, he doesn't wish to destroy the people that put him in his prison camp. He just wants to live, and throughout this book he does things that aren't what we would consider to be "the right thing to do," In fact *spoiler alert* he even reports his own family to the authorities. But I think that's what makes this book so good. It's filled with raw emotion, and a protagonists whose only goal is to SURVIVE, instead of save everyone (which happens a lot in mainstream books.) But this is a true story, which makes it that much more riveting to read.

2. Medical Ethics: A Very Short Introduction
Now let me start off by saying this, I HAVE NEVER READ A MEDICAL ETHICS BOOK IN MY LIFE. But I was pleasantly surprised by this book, which taught me a lot about medical morals and patient autonomy and a whole lot more. This book covers topics from euthanasia all the way to abortion, and is a book filled with debates on all sorts of medical issues. It didn't really stand out to me in any way in the sense that I wasn't surprised by any of the material. I mean, the book was literally all about its title, which is MEDICAL ETHICS. But even if you're not a doctor, or not trying to become one, this book is filled with interesting morals that I'm glad to have learned.

3. This star won't go out
This is an interesting memoir. It's filled with photographs, diary entries, eulogies, emails, blog posts and much much more. This star won't go out is a collection of memories, about and from Ester Earl, who was a young girl diagnosed with Thyroid cancer at the age of 12. She died shortly afterwards when she was 16. Ester was loved by many people, she had the ability to make people smile, and even though I just read her diary entries and skimmed through her photographs, I know that I would have wanted to be her friend. Even from just her writing, she made the room light up with expression and how down to earth she way. Ester wasn't spectacular, not in a conventional sense anyways. But she changed the lives of many people, including myself.

4. The False Prince
I could rave about this book for ages. I'm not even kidding. I've read The False Prince about 3 times now, but even that is quite rare, because I usually only read books once. This book is one of those books that keeps you on your toes, and keeps you thinking. I really don't want to spoil anything, BECAUSE THE WHOLE BOOK IS FREAKIN AMAZING, but definitely read it if you haven't. It has an extremely well written plot with such vibrant characters. It is definitely one of my favourite books up to date.
